The Employment and Social Security Card (CTPS) is essential for formalizing employment relationships in Brazil.
What is it?
The CTPS is a fundamental document for anyone who establishes an employment relationship in Brazil. It regulates and legalizes labor relations, ensuring that workers have access to all their rights guaranteed by law, such as paid vacations, unemployment insurance, thirteenth salary, retirement, among others.
Currently, the issuance and updating of the CTPS is done digitally, without the need to have the physical document. It is possible to have the document accessible through any smartphone, simply download the “Carteira de Trabalho Digital” application.
How do I request a CTPS?
To issue the CTPS, you must have a CPF (Individual Taxpayer Registry) and create an authenticated account in the “gov.br” system. Only exceptional cases can request the CTPS in physical format. To do so, you must submit the request using a form from the Ministry of Labor and Employment and present a documentary list that justifies the request for the physical card.
